It’s been a miserable growing season around the MacDonald house. Hail, rain, heat and none of it at the right time. But, the kale seedlings that I bought have managed to thrive despite the hardships. And today I finally got around to harvesting my first batch. I know that kale gets better with frost but the tender “young” leaves aren’t so bad either. And I needed the kale to make a batch of caldo verde. My recipe calls for a bunch of kale, which I figured was about 11 kale leaves. After cutting those off the 4 plants you can’t even tell. This is good because in a couple of weeks (when I have time) I’ll be able to harvest and freeze several bunches for future use. Not a bad investment.
