For the past month and a half I have been tentatively training to run a spring marathon but I’ve been seriously lacking in motivation. After a couple of weeks of hating training and skipping my long weekend runs in favour of hanging out with my husband at the Bulk Barn I’ve decided that I just don’t want to do a spring marathon. While I can’t say that I loved every minute of training last year, I certainly didn’t feel like this.
I love running, but I just don’t feel like running for hours and hours on the weekend these days. Patches and I have been enjoying the trails, I’ve been enjoying swimmingand I’d love to spend more time at yoga. With my lack of enjoyment and the fact that I have no idea what I’ll actually be in doing in 2 months I’m scrapping the training and racing. Running will still continue – I’m looking a few smaller races to keep me busy in the summer, I’m volunteering at the Calgary marathon and I’m still working on hitting 1000 miles this year – just not marathon training. I know I’ve said before that I need some sort of training plan to keep me going so I think I’m going to stick with my planned week day runs and just cut back on the long weekend runs for what remains of this 18 week plan.
It’s actually a relief to have decided not to race and I’m hoping that without the long runs hanging over me all week I’m going to start enjoying running just a little bit more!
