We moved the bees with us to our new house – one hive strapped into the moving van and one strapped into the truck. It’s basically been too cold since we moved to see how the ladies had adjusted to their new home but with the warmer weather it has become obvious the bees are ready for spring.
Unfortunately, Geraldton didn’t make it through the winter so we are down to only one hive – Moose Factory. It’s hard to lose a hive and I’m not looking forward to cleaning it out but the positive is that Moose Factory looks really strong already and we’re going to (fingers crossed) have enough bees to split the hive and rebuild Geraldton.
It was around this time last spring that we opened the hives so when the weather was nice on Saturday we opened up Moose Factory to give the girls some pollen patties and treat for mites. They still have honey so hopefully they have lots of food and we’ll have lots more bees when we get back from vacation.
