With being in the middle of vacation (and too busy enjoying that) I didn’t have time to write about our little guy turning two months! Once we got home we were so close to three months I figured I would just combine both.
What He’s Been Up To
Growing: I didn’t weight him at the two month mark but he was 12 lb 9 oz when we returned from vacation. He out grew all his newborn and smaller clothes and I’ve packed those away. By three months he’s over 13lbs and already wearing items in the three to six month range.
Eating: less frequently and much faster. A typical nursing session for us is between 5 and 20 minutes. Travel helped us get a lot better at nursing out in public – we nursed on the plane, in parks and on the beach – but I think we still have our best feeds in the nest. He’s also learned to take a bottle so I’m able to leave him or let Jon feed him!
Sleeping – while we were travelling around he got used to sleeping in a pack’n play so now that’s what we use at home. He sleeps much better there at night than he did in his bassinet and we can keep him in the room. Still waking up 2 to 3 times at night but most of the time he goes back to sleep pretty quickly.
As far as napping, he napped on us most of the trip (in his carrier) but I’ve been trying to transition to a nap in his crib at least once a day now that we’re home. It’s hit and miss but I’ve had a few successful naps.
Before he turned two months he really started smiling (and laughing) which is awesome. Now that he’s three months he also “talks” – makes noises back at you when you have a conversation. He’s also really into getting his hands into his mouth.
On our trip he also discovered books and loves reading along. We’ve been reading to him since he was just born but he didn’t seem to care. Now he laughs and follows as you turn the pages. Watching him read with Jon melts my heart every time.
And he generally just notices stuff now – the animal decals in his bedroom, his mobile, people walking by, etc. It makes it way more fun to play now that he actually seems interested in what is going on around him.
What I’ve Been Up To
Travel – A large portion of the past few months was our trip to California so there has been lots of travel. We also went up to Edmonton for a lawn bowling tournament. He’s becoming an awesome little traveler!
At home – we’ve been working on creating a bit of an at home routine which currently looks like:
6 am – Jon goes to work, everyone else (hopefully) stays asleep
7:30 am – 8:30 am – Patches, Oreo and I get up (not because I want to) but if we’re lucky the baby sleeps. I use this time to feed the pets, have a coffee or sometimes shower
8:30 am – 10:00 am – feed and dress the little guy, take him out for a walk with Patches
10:00 am – 1:00 am- maybe fit in a nap, maybe not. Play, tummy time and read. I try and eat lunch. He usually eats again.
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Hope for another nap, do some more playing, eat again.
4:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Jon gets home
4:30 pm – 6:00 pm – usually the little guy naps so we go practice if the weather is nice
6:00 pm – 8:30 pm – dinner for everyone, some quiet play time with Dad, attempt a bed time routine.
8:30 pm onwards – usually we’re all in bed or close to that. Sometimes he goes to sleep for 4-5 hours, sometimes he’s up again at 10:30ish to eat.
Mom Time – I’ve been trying to carve out some time for me each day (mostly so I can work out, or get something done around the house). It is still a work in progress but as he gets better at napping and playing it is getting easier. I mentioned that I’ve gotten back to working out again and it feels good to be gaining some of my old strength and endurance back again.
What We’re Looking Forward To
Outdoor adventures – its time to introduce the little guy to hiking and camping. Jon is on pat leave now so we can adventure during the week and still have our weekends to work on the house.
